Hutton Playtime in Hollywood – Play Dirty 1968

Following on from the Sea of Sand post, comes the movie ‘Play Dirty’ starring Michael Caine. It’s almost a remake of Sea but features some more swagger and is of course in color.

There are some great mash up desert military styles going on this movie, not the lease Nigel Davenport’s shearling jerkin but there are desert boots everywhere, plus Caine’s very cool looking suede stovepipe boots.

But these posts are really for the Playtime and sure enough one of the LRDG gang can be seen, albeit briefly (never too briefly for these eagle eyes) sporting Hutton Playtime as the guys prepare to blow up another Afrika Korps dump.

Play dirty also features some nice close ups of Type 01 style desert boots and we used them for the original relaunch back in 2015. Interesting tidbit, Melvyn Bragg (he of the Spitting Image Vicks Spray) wrote the screenplay.
