It's December. Finally getting cool enough to wear a light jacket at 7am. Dug out this Lotus Green G9 from 15 years ago that I totally forgot I own.

My small but interesting collection of vintage wat

My small but interesting collection of vintage watches have all started to fail over the last couple of years.
My Zenith A Cairelli pilot chrono will soon be off to a specialist in Spain.
My Yema 1970 flygraf with it's cool case and bright blue Tropic strap has a stuck spring.
However, my 1975 'Formica' Rallygraf Super is still going strong although I'm not a fan of leather straps in the Lisbon humidity this one sports a perfect recreation of the original Yema rally strap from the awesome @twostitchstraps

Now, I've been snobby about quartz watches. I know that millenniums love the old Casios and so on, but for my generation it was quartz (along with Swatch) that killed off almost all the small brands of Swiss watchmakers.

Well, I've always thought the same way about elastic waistbands on pants but I find myself reaching daily for my Uniqlo elastic waist work shorts.

Likewise I decided that maybe I should pick up a beater watch but one that I'm happy to wear as a regular.

I guess the folks at @yema_watches must have been stalking me on here because I kept seeing a beautiful faced reissue of the Mario Andretti Rallygraf and I was confused as to why I liked it. The reissues from recent years I thought were so so. The face details were lazy like a Chinese copy might be.

But on closer inspection I could see the face of the meca quartz latest reissue was a thing of beauty. Subtle details having found their way back to this iconic model.

Already this week I ordered their French Air Force Bi-Compax reissue which is cool but I realised I need bezels on my watches so I gave it to a Yema obsessed friend on whom it looks great.

I looked through the Yema site including the Rallygraf reissue but thought the face was so so.

That is until a Yema ad popped up on here and stopped me in my tracks. This model had a beautiful vintage style brushed face and properly indented dials.

Now I've been drawn in by photos in their ads before only to discover they don't have the model in the ad.

It's such a common problem when websites use 'perfect' pack shots that don't do justice to how the product looks in real life.

Anyway it's on backorder for November.

This is a stunning pair of deadstock Keith Highlanders long wing brogues. Keith was also the maker behind WalkOver back in the day.

Imagine my surprise when I saw these images on the website of then recently opened ivy boutique in Seoul!

Well then you can imagine the reaction of the owner of that store when I turned up in person and explained through a shop assistant that these were my shoes and I was in fact The Weejun!

@barbershop_co is a great store and I bought a really nice knitted tie while I was there. Of course most of the items I could buy in London back then but over the years owner @renton1007 has consistently ordered really great products that are almost always nicer or more authentic than those sold this side of the world.

These longwings came to a very sad end. Moving to Lisbon I had no idea how insanely humid the city is because although it rarely if ever rains the river imparts massive humidity.

After the first winter when I pulled the shoes out of their box they were literally green with mold. Inside and out. Normally some days outside in strong sunlight would be enough to cure the mold issue but the following winter they'd infected other shoes in the cupboard. So they had to go to save the rest.

From that time on I have three semi industrial dehumidifiers running 24/7 and that has fixed the humidity problem.

Shame as they were such a great shoe.
